The art book David Hockney, The Arrival of Spring, Normandy, 2020 lets us admire the full talent of the artist on iPad. It will inspire you to start digital painting too! The benefits of the Brushes app available on this tablet are numerous for artists! Indeed, it’s a true comfort from an ergonomic, logistical, and even economic standpoint—though on the latter point, our artist has nothing to worry about! 🙂

Nature and Normandy in the spotlight

The title of the new book about the artist is very telling!
David Hockney, The Arrival of Spring in Normandy, 2020 is published by the Royal Academy of Arts.
It allows us to admire beautiful landscapes of Normandy straight from the painter’s property in Beuvron-en-Auge.

The release of this book echoes the exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, running until August 1st, showcasing David Hockney’s digital paintings created in his new homeland, Normandy! William Boyd, the British writer and screenwriter, tells us in the foreword how he had the chance to meet his idol. He discusses David Hockney’s creative power on screen and his digital genius!

Edith Devaney, curator and director at the Royal Academy of Arts, takes over from there! She has overseen successful exhibitions of David Hockney, such as 82 Portraits and a Still Life and A Bigger Picture, which was held at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. You’ll have the opportunity to read an exclusive interview between this expert on the artist’s work and the master of iPad painting himself. This part of the book gives us a deeper understanding of David Hockney’s creative process with this medium, as well as the poetic essence of spring and Normandy that emanates from his work.

An evasive and highly practical art book!

Tiger Butterfly is primarily captivated by the book’s format. With its horizontal layout, it can easily be slipped into our bookshelf, positioned vertically. This unique format allows you to enjoy Hockney’s paintings across their full width while taking up minimal space. Moreover, the pages of this book are thick, ensuring its durability and long-term preservation. The quality of the paper is tangible.

David Hockney alternates between landscape and portrait formats in his paintings. As we flip through this book, it’s like a breath of fresh greenery that delights the eye! The trees undergo a metamorphosis as spring progresses. The timber-framed houses painted from different angles add to the picturesque dimension of the book. We could almost smell the fragrance of the flowers the artist has picked from his garden to offer us in this book!

David Hockney emphasizes not only the variety of tree species found in Normandy but also the unique climate of the region. He captures the weather conditions with great subtlety. There are even paintings of Normandy at night! A must-see for sure!

With a gentle touch, you can even detach the pages from the book to frame your favorite paintings and decorate your home! All you need is to find a frame, and you can have your own David Hockney paintings at home!
